A “Jubilee” is a time of great joy, a year of remission and universal pardon that is decreed every 25 years. Pope Francis has decreed 2025 to be a Jubilee year in Rome and has chosen as the motto “Pilgrims of Hope”.
The Jubilee year begins on December 24, 2024 Christmas Eve with the opening of the “holy door” in each of the four great basilicas. Throughout the year special jubilees are invoked for various groups within the Church. Here are a few:

21 February – Jubilee of Deacons
28 March – Jubilee of Missioners of Mercy
25 June – Jubilee of Bishops
28 July – Jubilee of Young People
26 Sept – Jubilee of Catechists
04 Oct – Jubilee of Grandparents and Elderly People
11 Oct – Jubilee of Marian Spirituality
Jan 2026 – Closing of the Holy Doors

Tour Highlights

  • Orvieto Duomo (Orvieto): The Cathedral of Orvieto, known as the Duomo, is a masterpiece of Italian Gothic architecture. It’s famous for its intricate façade adorned with colorful mosaics, sculptures, and bas-reliefs.
  • Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels (Assisi): This basilica houses the Porziuncola, the small chapel where St. Francis of Assisi founded the Franciscan order. It’s also where he spent much of his life. Visitors can see the rose bush and the cave where St. Francis retired for prayer.
  • Basilica of St. Francis (Assisi): A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this basilica is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Italy. It houses the tomb of St. Francis and features stunning frescoes by artists like Giotto and Cimabue, depicting scenes from his life.
  • Church of St. Clare (Assisi): Dedicated to St. Clare, one of St. Francis’s closest followers, this church houses her incorrupt body. It’s a serene and spiritually significant site.
  • Eucharistic Miracle of Lanciano (Lanciano): Lanciano is famous for a Eucharistic Miracle that allegedly occurred in the 8th century. The miracle involves the transformation of bread and wine into actual flesh and blood during the Mass.
  • Pantheon (Rome): A marvel of ancient Roman engineering, the Pantheon is a well-preserved temple dedicated to all the gods. Its massive dome and oculus are particularly impressive.
  • Padre Pio Shrine (San Giovanni Rotondo): This shrine is dedicated to Padre Pio, a beloved Italian saint known for his stigmata and miraculous healing powers. Visitors can see his tomb, cell, confessional, and the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie.
  • Abbey of Montecassino (Montecassino): This historic monastery, perched atop a hill, is one of the most important Benedictine sites in the world. It was heavily bombed during World War II but has since been meticulously rebuilt.
  • Vatican City (Rome): The smallest independent state in the world, Vatican City is home to some of the most significant religious and artistic treasures. Highlights include St. Peter’s Basilica, the Vatican Museums, and the Sistine Chapel.
  • Colosseum and Roman Forum (Rome): These ancient landmarks offer a glimpse into the grandeur of the Roman Empire. The Colosseum, an iconic symbol of Rome, was the largest amphitheater ever built, while the Roman Forum was the heart of ancient Roman political and social life.
