Itinerary

Day 1: USA

Today we depart the USA on our international fl ight to Rome. Dinner and breakfast will be served on aboard.

Day 2: Rome

We arrive in Rome, “the Eternal City,” and are greeted by our tour escort. We will transfer to our deluxe motor coach for a panorama tour of the city on our way to our hotel. The balance of the day at leisure to explore the city on our own. Dinner and overnight. (D)

Day 3: Rome

After breakfast and morning Mass, we transfer to Vatican City to attend the Papal Audience (if available). The afternoon will be spent touring St Peter's Basilica, the largest church in Christendom, the Vatican Museum and Library, as well as the breathtaking Sistine Chapel with Michelangelo's Last Judgment. Dinner and overnight. (B,D)

Day 4: Rome

Today is a full day tour of Rome. We visit the Catacombs where early Christians hid to escape persecution, the Appian Way, Capitoline Hill, St. Peter in Chains, the Colosseum, and Circus Maximus. In the afternoon we visit the three major basilicas in Rome; St. Mary Major, one of the oldest churches dedicated to the Blessed Virgin, St. John Lateran, the former residence of the popes, and St, Paul Outside the Walls, built over the saints tomb. Dinner and overnight in Rome. (B,D)

Day 5: Rome / Assisi / Florence

Depart Rome after breakfast for a scenic drive to Assisi, the town of beloved St. Francis. We will tour important sites that follow the saint's life, including the beautiful 13th century Basilica built over his crypt. Other important sites include the Church of St. Clare, which houses her incorrupt body, the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels, built over the Porziuncola, the start of the Franciscan Order, the thornless rose bush, and the cave where the saint retired for prayer. Continue to Florence for dinner and overnight. (B,D)

Day 6: Florence / Padua

Orientation tour of Florence, “The Renaissance City,” visiting the Duomo, Santa Croce Church, where many nobles are buried, and the Academy Museum, to see the famous statue of “David” by Michelangelo. We will have some time for shopping at the famous sidewalk vendors for the excellent leather goods, for which Florence is famous. In the afternoon travel to Padua, arriving in time for dinner and overnight. (B,D)

Day 7: Padua / Venice / Bolzano

This morning, tour the Basilica dedicated to St. Anthony, the Patron Saint of Lost Things and Causes, who is buried there. We will have time to visit his tomb, venerate his incorruptible tongue, his relics, and his clothing, which are displayed in a room reserved for numerous reliquaries. The interior is richly decorated with frescoes but its greatest art treasures are the Donatello bronzes at the main altar. Then on to the Cappella degli Scrovegni (Arena Chapel) to view the well-preserved Giotto frescoes of more than 35 biblical scenes. After lunch, a short drive north will take us to Venice, to visit the famous landmarks, including St. Mark's Square, the largest square in the city, San Marco's Basilica, the Doge's Palace, the Campanile, and the famous Clock Tower. Time for a gondola ride on our own, before continuing to Balzano for dinner and overnight. Balzano is located in a valley with vineyards set in the Italian Alps. (B,D)

Day 8: Balzano / Innsbruck / Oberammergau

After breakfast we depart for Oberammergau. En route we will enjoy a brief stop in Innsbruck, where the scenery is magnifi cent, surrounded by the towering Alps, and an old city charm prevails. View the famous Goldenes Dachl, “Golden Roof,” built in the 15th Century for Emperor Maximilian's Wedding , the Triumphal Arch and the City Tower. Visit St. Jakob's Cathedral, a point of pilgrimage since the 16th Century. Continue to Oberammergau area for check-in and time to relax and stroll the town in the evening. (B,D)

Day 9: Oberammergau

The highlight of our visit today takes place in this tiny hamlet. We will transfer from our lodgings to the outdoor theater to view this amazing presentation of the Passion of Christ as performed by the local villagers. Dinner and overnight in Oberammergau area. (B,D)

Day 10: Oberammergau / Munich / USA

Depart early this morning for Munich Airport for our return fl ight to USA arriving home the same day. We take with us memories and blessings to last a life time. (B)
