Day 1 - NEWARK
Today we depart Newark Liberty Airport on Iberia Airlines for our
overseas fl ight to Spain. Dinner and breakfast we be served on
Day 2 - MADRID
Today we arrive at Madrid International Airport. After clearing customs
we are warmly greeted by our Tour Escort and transferred by
motor coach to our hotel. After checking in our hotel the balance
of the day is at leisure to explore one of Europe's most dynamic
capital cities. Dinner is on our own. Overnight.
Day 3 - MADRID – SARRIA
Breakfast at your hotel. Pre-arranged transfer to Madrid train station
at the proper time to check-in for your train to Sarria. Arrival
transfer from Santiago Airport to Sarria. Free day in Sarria at leisure.
Your information packet containing complete route descriptions
and materials will be waiting for you at your hotel. We recommend
using this day exploring and get acquainted with the city and surroundings.
Dinner and overnight.
Day 4 - SARRIA - PORTOMARIN
Breakfast at your hotel. This stage's fi rst gradual climb will introduce
you to a succession of hamlets linked by rural trails and “corredoiras”
(growing fi elds) fi lled with incredible natural beauty. A pronounced
descent will lead you along the Miño river, now you'll be at
the gates of Portomarin with its impressive church-fortress which
will give you a warm welcome. Dinner and overnight.
Day 5 - PORTOMARIN – PALAS DE REI
Breakfast at your hotel. Today we depart Portomarin, leaving behind
the Miño river and ascending little by little until you reach the Sierra
de Ligonde. Continue past the villages of Ventas de Naron, Ligonde
and Eirexe until you arrive to the nucleus of Lestedo and continue
onto Palas de Rei. Dinner and overnight.
Day 6 - PALAS DE REI – ARZUA
Breakfast at your hotel. Our stage runs in the region of A Ulloa, a
land of meadows with a strong dairy production and known for its
delicious cheeses. Today we will pass through several small beautiful
villages such as Leboreiro, Furelos and Ribadiso. In Melide, we will
fi nd one of the oldest ‘cruceiros' (stone wayside crosses) in Galicia,
dating from the 14th century. Dinner and overnight.
Day 7 - ARZUA - RUA
Breakfast at your hotel. In today's penultimate stage the green foothills
of Galicia will by your travel companion during this walk until
you reach the town of Rua. Here you will fi nd the Ermita de Santa
Irene. Free time in Rua to explore the town on your own. Dinner
Day 8 - RÚA - SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA
Breakfast at your hotel. Begin your fi nal stage of the Camino behind
the town of Pedrouzo, ascend past the village of Amenal and descend
to Lavacolla to later ascend again to the appropriately named
Monte do Gozo (Mountain of Joy). From here you will see the Towers
of the Cathedral of Santiago for the fi rst time. You will reach
Santiago after a short 4 additional kms. Arrive to Santiago through
the charming streets of the city until fi nally reaching the city's spectacular
medieval center and the cathedral located on the Plaza do
Obradoiro. Your Camino ends upon arrival at the Cathedral. Dinner
Day 9 - SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA
Breakfast at your hotel. Your day is free to explore this mystical
pilgrimage city wandering through the old city of Santiago and its
beautiful Cathedral on Obradoiro square. Dinner is on your own.
Overnight accommodations in Santiago.
Day 10 - SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA
Breakfast at your hotel. Pre-arranged transfer to Santiago airport
at the proper time to check-in for your return fl ight home. Arrival
later the same day.
