11 Day Pilgrimage to Israel & Egypt with Father Hilaire Belizaire



DAY 1: SEPTEMBER 19 - NEWYORK, NY

We depart on our international flight to Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport. Dinner and breakfast are served on board.

DAY 2 SEPTEMBER 20 - GALILEE

We arrive at Ben Gurion Airport, where we are met by our tour escort and transferred to our hotel in Galilee. Enjoy some free time before dinner. Overnight in the Galilee area. (D)

DAY 3 SEPTEMBER 21 - GALILEE

Our exploration of the Holy Land begins with visits to Christian sites along the shores of the Sea of Galilee. Jesus taught and performed miracles here. We visit the Mt. of Beatitudes where Jesus preached the Sermon on the Mount. The sermon is commemorated in the Church of the Beatitudes, built overlooking the Sea of Galilee. We continue to Tabgha, site of the Miracle of the Loaves and Fishes. A mosaic commemorating this miracle is located near the altar atTabgha.We also visit Capernaum and the Church of the Primacy of Peter. Later we proceed to the Church of the Transfiguration at Mt.Tabor and the Jordan River, site of Jesus' baptism. We enjoy a ruise on the Sea of Galilee and visit Ginnosar where we see a fisherman's boat that dates to Christ's time. Dinner and overnight in the Galilee area. (B, D)

DAY 4 SEPTEMBER 22 - JERUSALEM

Today we travel to Nazareth in Lower Galilee, the place where Jesus grew up and lived most of his life with Mary and Joseph.We visit the Church of the Annunciation built over the Grotto where theAngel Gabriel appeared to Mary saying, “Hail, highly favored one” and Mary said, “Yes to God.” We continue to Joseph's carpentry workshop and then to Cana, site of the wedding feast, where Jesus turned water into wine. Next is Mount Carmel stopping at the Carmelite Monastery at Muhraka, site of Elijah's altar and Stella Maris Church. Paintings in the church dome depict Old Testament stories, including one of Elijah being swept up to heaven in a fiery chariot. We continue to Caesarea on the Mediterranean Sea to discover the ancient Crusader and Roman town, its aqueduct and theater. Continue to Jerusalem for dinner and overnight (B, D)

DAY 5 SEPTEMBER 23 - JERUSALEM

We spend the day in the Old City of Jerusalem, visiting St.Anne's Church, the Pool of Bethesda, the Chapel of the Flagellation and the Ecce Homo Arch. We continue through the Bazaar to the Via Dolorosa which winds through the streets of Old Jerusalem commemorating the path that Jesus walked on his way to Calvary. We will carry a wooden cross along this same path ending at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, containing the tomb where Jesus was buried and rose from the dead. Later we head to Bethlehem for an inspiring visit to the Church of the Nativity where Jesus was born, stand on Shepard's Field and visit the cave where the hepherds saw the star that lead them to the stable. Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem. (B, D)

DAY 6 SEPTEMBER 24 - JERUSALEM

Our destination for today is the Dead Sea region, the lowest point on earth. We drive to Masada, the fortress where Jewish Zealots held off the armies of the Roman Empire before choosing death over surrender. We continue to Ein Gedi, where King David found shelter from the wrath of King Saul. This afternoon we can opt to “?oat” on the Dead Sea. On our way back to Jerusalem, we visit the caves of Qumran where, in 1947, the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. We return to Jerusalem for dinner and overnight. (B, D)

DAY 7 SEPTEMBER 25 - JERUSALEM

Today we participate in a full-day tour of Jerusalem including the Mt. of Olive and Mt. Scopus. Walk down the Palm Sunday Road to the church of Domus Flevits, where Jesus wept over Jerusalem, then continue to the Church of All Nations with the Garden of Gethsemane and pray at the “Rock of Agony.” We continue to the Kidron Valley and to Mt. Zion, site of the Upper Room of the Last Supper. We drive to the village of Ein Kerem, to visit the birthplace of St. John the Baptist and to the Church of the Visitation where Mary visited Elizabeth. This evening we enjoy a farewell dinner. DAY 8 SEPTEMBER 26 - TEL-AVIV/CAIRO

After breakfast we wil transfer to the airport for our flight to Cairo. Upon arrival we will stop at the tomb of President Anwar Sadat and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Continue to our hotel for dinner and overnight. (B, D)

DAY 9 SEPTEMBER 27 - CAIRO

After breakfast our sightseeing will include the great Pyramids at Giza and the Sphinx. Here you can have an opportunity to ride a camel. Later we embark on a pleasant drive to Memphis. We will stop at the Alabaster Sphinx and the remains of two colossal statues of Ramses II. We proceed to the Necropolis of Sakkara and see the Serapeum, tomb of Apis the Sacred Bull, the Step Pyramid of Zoser, and the funerary temple. Return to our hotel in Cairo for dinner and overnight. (B, D)

DAY 10 SEPTEMBER 28 - CAIRO

Following breakfast, we will visit the Egyptian Museum which contains mummies, many artifacts and treasures of King Tut. We will tour the Citadel, Mohammed Ali Mosque (which offers a panoramic view of Cairo and the Nile), and visit the bazaars to pick up souvenirs. Dinner and overnight in Cairo. (B, D)

DAY 11 SEPTEMBER 29 - CAIRO/USA

Today we say farewell as we transfer to Cairo Airport headed for our flight home. Arrival the same day. (B)
