11 Day Retreat to The Holy Land with Fr. Regaspi
DAY 1 - (Tuesday, January 10) – NEW YORK – TEL AVIV
Depart from New York to Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv. Dinner and breakfast are served on board.
DAY 2 - (Wednesday, January 11) - CAESAREA • STELLA MARIS • GALILEE
Awaken to a glorious dawn! The excitement begins the moment we arrive and prepare ourselves for a life changing experience in Holy Land following the footsteps of Jesus and Mary. Upon arrival in Tel Aviv our local tour guide will meet us after the airport formalities. It will be followed by a relaxing tour along the coastal road to Caesarea Maritima where we enjoy seeing Herod's masterpiece including the Roman Aqueduct and Theater, Herod's palace, Hippodrome and the harbor from where St. Paul sailed. Next we visit the city of Haifa including visits to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and Elijah's Grotto followed by a visit to Tel Meggido. You will check-in a hotel followed by dinner and rest.
DAY 3 - (Thursday, Janurary 12) - CANA • NAZARETH • NAIN • MT. TABOR • SEPPHORIS
After breakfast, we go to Cana and have our Mass with the renewal of vows for valid married couples. Then we proceed to Nazareth to visit the Church of the Annunciation - the place where the archangel Gabriel appeared to Mary. Here you'll also see Mary and Joseph's house where Jesus spent 30 years of His life and St. Joseph Church. Then we proceed to Nain where Jesus raised the widow's son. Then we ascend to the Mount Tabor, the site of the Transfi guration. Then we go to Sepphoris, (Zippori) the Jewel of the Galilee and the capital city of Galilee for many periods.
DAY 4 - (Friday, January 13) - MT. OF BEATITUDES • MENSA CHRISTI • TABGHA • CAPHARNAUM • MAGDALA • YIGAL ALON MUSEUM • BOAT RIDE ON THE SEA OF GALILEE
We begin our day at Mt. of Beatitudes for our Mass then we proceed to to the Church of the Primacy of St. Peter where we see the “Mensa Christi.” We continue to Tabgha – site of the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves & fi shes. Then we go to Capharnaum – the town of Jesus. Here we will see the house of Peter and one of the ancient synagogues. You will also see the hometown of Saint Mary Magdalene – Migdal (Magdala). In the afternoon, we visit the Yigal Alon Museum then enjoy a relaxing boat ride on the Sea of Galilee.
DAY 5 - (Saturday, January 14) - BEIT SHEAN • EL MAGTAS • JORDAN RIVER • JERICHO • MT. OF TEMPTATIONS• SYCAMORE TREE IN JERICHO
Today we travel south as we visit sites along the way. We will visit Beit Shean then continue to El Magtas where we do the renewal of baptismal vows at the Jordan River. We proceed to Jericho, the oldest city in the world with spectacular views of the Mount of Temptations. We will be able to see the sycamore tree on our way to the city of Jericho.
DAY 6 - (Sunday, January 15) - BETHLEHEM • CHURCH OF THE NATIVITY • MILK GROTTO • SHEPHERDS‘ FIELD • EIN KAREM
Today we are off to Bethlehem - the Birthplace of Jesus. Our visit begins at Manger Square, standing in front of one of the oldest Christian churches in the world - the Church of the Nativity. Entering the church through a small doorway, we make our way down to the Grotto of the Nativity to see the very place where Jesus' was born. After which, we proceed to Milk Grotto Church then to the Shepherds‘ Field where the angel of the Lord visited the shepherds and announced to them the birth of Jesus. Then we go to the village of Ein Karem, to visit the Church of the Visitation, the Church of St. John the Baptist and Mary's Spring.
DAY 7 - (Monday, January 16) - MOUNT OF OLIVES • GARDEN OF GETSEMANE • KIDRON VALLEY • MOUNT ZION• CHURCH OF THE ASCENSION • PATER NOSTER CHURCH • DORMITION ABBEY • ROOM OF THE LAST SUPPER • ST. PETER GALLICANTU
Today, we ascend the Mount of Olives – seeing the eternal golden city – then a walk along Palm Sunday Road stopping at Dominus Flevit from where Jesus wept. Walk along the Jewish cemetery with a view of the eastern or golden gate – known as the Thrones of Judgment. Visit the Garden of Gethsemane and the Church of all Nations, the Church of the Ascension, the Dormition Abbey and the Upper Room (Cenacle) ending at the Church of St. Peter in Gallicantu.
DAY 8 - (Tuesday, January 17) - WESTERN WALL • TEMPLE MOUNT • AL AQSA MOSQUE • HEZEKIAH'S TUNNEL • RAMAT RACHEL • YAD VASHEM MUSEUM
This morning we visit the Western Wall - one of the holiest Jewish sites. Next we visit Temple Mount, visit the Al Aqsa Mosque followed by a panoramic tour of New Jerusalem. Driving past the Knesset and Israeli Parliament, we arrive at Ramat Rachel and Yad Vashem Museum. Visit the City of David and an optional walk through the King Hezekiah's Tunnel (shorts and sandals needed as the tunnel contains water).
DAY 9 - (Wednesday, January 18) - JERUSALEM • ECCE HOMO • VIA DOLOROSA • CHURCH OF THE HOLY SEPULCHRE • MASADA • THE DEAD SEA • QUMRAN
Our day begins with a mass at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre then a visit to the Church of Saint Mark, then we proceed to the Old City of Jerusalem. Entering via the Zion's Gate, we continue to the Pool of Bethesda, visiting the Church of St Anne's nearby where the Blessed mother was born. Visit the Chapel of Flagellation, Ecce Homo Arch, we pray as we walk through the Via Dolorosa. After individual lunch and shopping, we travel immediately to Masada. We will spend the the afternoon swim in the Dead Sea beach. Driving along the shores of the Dead Sea we will visit Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found.
DAY 10 - (Thursday, January 19) - BIBLE MUSEUM • EMMAUS • JAFFA• TEL AVIV
Today, we will visit the Bible Land Museum to see the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Model of the Old City of Jerusalem. Then we proceed to the City of Emmaus to visit the ruins of the 12th century church, which now marks the village of Emmaus where Jesus appeared to two disciples after the Resurrection. Later we continue to old port city of Jaffa. In the evening, we enjoy a farewell dinner at a local restaurant before departing from Tel Aviv back to New Jersey.
DAY 11 - (Friday, January 20) - USA
Arrive in New York with a blessed and fruitful retreat-pilgrimage to the Holy Land.
