12 Day Pilgrimage to Portugal, Spain & France with Spiritual Leader Msgr. Koenigsfeld and Sr. Andrea Vasquez

Day 1: Oct 1st 2018 Denver

Today we board our international overnight fl ight to Porto. Dinner and breakfast with be served on board.

Day 2: Oct 2nd Lisbon/Santarem/Fatima

Today we arrive in Lisbon the capital of Portugal. We will be met by our Regina Tour Escort, board our deluxe motor coach and before departing for Fatima we will have a sightseeing tour of this charming city. Our touring will take us to see the fanciful Belem Tower, Jeronimos Monastery dedicated to the Virgin Mary, the Monument to the Discoveries and the Basilica and Church of St. Anthony (patron of lost objects). Our next stop is to Santarem, one of the oldest cities in Europe. We will visit the Church of St. Stephen which holds the oldest recorded Eucharistic Miracle., “The Bleeding Host” continuously on display since 1269 AD. Mass can be celebrated here. After Mass we depart to Fatima for dinner and overnight. After dinner we will take part in the Candlelight Rosary Procession. (B/D)

Day 3 & 4: October 3rd & 4th Fatima

The next two days will be spent visiting the Shrine and Churches of Fatima, Aljustrel, Valinhos, and the Stations of the Cross. We start each day with Mass, one day at the Capelinha, the Little Chapel of the Apparitions, and one at the Chapel inside the Domus Pacis Hotel, or one of the Basilicas on the shrine grounds. During the day we will gather to pray the Rosary with other pilgrims from around the world. Our sightseeing will start at the hamlet of Aljustrel, the shepherd children's home. She appeared to Lucia age 10, Jacinta age 7 and Francisco age 9. Our next stop is Valinhos where Our Lady appeared to the children after they were released from prison August 1917 and the fi rst and third apparition of the Angel. We will visit the church where they were baptized and the local cemetery. Our Lady appeared from May 1917 and continued each month until October 13th 1917. The message of Fatima has been the same to Pray for World Peace. Our visit to Fatima includes: The Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary where we can pray at the tombs of Sts. Jacinta and Francisco and Sr. Lucia. Mass can also be celebrated here. Next is the underground Basilica of the Holy Trinity consecrated October 12th 2007. The basilica can hold more than 9,000 pilgrims and has numerous chapels, one for Adoration, one for Reconciliation. There are chapels for quiet prayer and Meditation. After an early breakfast on day 4 we will experience Christ's unconditional love by participating in the Stations of the Cross along the Via Sacra. The “Sacred Way” marks a path taken by the shepherd children of Fatima to their fi rst apparition with Our Lady. It is composed of fi fteen chapels in commemoration of the Passion of Our Lord. The fi fteen station, the Resurrection can be found close to the Chapel of Calvary. Dinner and overnight. (B/D)

Day 5: Oct 5th Braga/Pontevedra/Santiago de Compostela

After breakfast we depart Lisbon and head for Santiago de Compostela in Spain. Along the way we will make a stop in Braga, the religious city to visit the Holy Mountain of Sameiro and Bom Jesus do Monte. The fi rstchapel was built over the hill dates back to 1733. Other chapels were built in the 15th and 16th centuries dedicated to the Holy Cross, Passion of Christ, Five Senses and Three Theological Virtues. All are dedicated to Bom Jesus (Good Jesus) The stairway leading to the top of the hill and the chapels are zigzag with fountains in between, a breathe taking site. We continue our journey to Santiago de Compostela, time permitting we will make a brief stop in Pontevedra one of Spain's religious gems, with a visit to Santa Maria la Major a 16th century church declared a small basilica by Pope St. John the 23rd. We arrive in Santiago de Compostela at St. James Cathedral where Mass will be celebrated. Dinner and overnight. (B/D)

Day 6: Oct 6th Santiago de Compostela

We return to the Cathedral of St. James for Mass and after Mass we walk behind the altar and tradition says, “we must hug” the dazzling statue of St. James before we descend into the crypt to see the relics of St. James known as the Patron Saint of Pilgrims. Since the discovery of his tomb, numerous miracles have been claimed here. Our guide will give us a tour of the 12th century cathedral before we continue our visit of the Plaza del Obradoiro, Archbishop's Palace, and the Rajoy Palace. Balance of the day at leisure to explore this World Heritage Site on our own and shop for the items most famous in this area. Chocolates, tile ,gold, silver, lace. Take time to relax at one of the outside cafes to sample coffee, delicious bakery goods. Dinner and overnight. (B/D)

Day 7: Oct 7th Covadonga

Today we bid farewell to the City dedicated to St. James as we depart for the Village of Covadonga and the Holy Cave. In 722 AD a man named Pelayo lead a band of warriors against the Muslims. As the small band of warriors retreated into the mountain cave a hermit living there had a statue of the Virgin Mary, they prayed to her for protection and victory. The Moorish Commander fell in battle and the army fl ed. This was considered the fi rst victory for Christians over the Muslims in the fi ght against the Islamic Army in the Iberian Peninsula. The Virgin Mary's intercession was credited for the victory and King Alfonso I commanded a monastery and chapel be built on the site. The Cave's meaning has come to be the Cave of Worship, Trues, Thanks and Gratitude. St. John Paul II visited the Cave of Our Lady of Covadonga during his papacy. After Mass the balance of the day is at leisure , to explore the lovely village. Dinner and overnight. (B/D)

Day 8: Oct 8th Loyola/Lourdes

After an early breakfast we depart for Lourdes with a stop in Loyola where we visit the sights having to do with the Society of Jesus and birthplace of Saint Ignatius born in 1491 AD. Mass will be celebrated at the Sanctuary of Loyola (Shrines and Basilica of Loyola). Our guide will give us the history of this wonderful saint's life and conversion. He will explain how St. Ignatius founded the Jesuit Order and dedicated himself to become a soldier of the Christian faith. St. Ignatius is not buried in Loyola but in Rome in the Church of Gesu. We continue to France arriving in Lourdes and check into our hotel. Dinner will be at the hotel before we take part in the International Rosary Candlelight Procession. Overnight. (B/D)

Day 9 & 10: Oct 9th & 10th Lourdes

These next two days will be dedicated to Walking in the Footsteps of St. Bernadette's Life. In 1858 at the Grotto of Massabielle Our Lady appeared to the 14 year old Bernadette Soubirous calling herself the “Immaculate Conception”. We will visit the Boly Mill where she was born, the Locale Mill residence of her parents, the Cachot formerly used as a jail where she also lived with her parents at the time of the Apparitions, the Chapel where she received her First Holy Communion, the Parish Church containing her Baptismal Font, the Grotto for prayer, and take part in the Healing Processions. There will be time to submerge our self in the Healing Baths, Mass will take place in the Grotto and in the beautiful Basilica with its breathe taking murals depicting the Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious and Luminous Mysteries. Our sightseeing will also take us to the underground basilica for Adoration and Prayer. After dinner take part in the International Rosary and Candlelight Processions. Dinner and Overnight. (B/L)

Day 11: Oct 11th Montserrat

We have an early breakfast and depart for Montserrat located in the rugged mountainside to visit the Shrine. Catholic tradition says, St. Luke carved the statue of the Black Madonna around 50 AD and brought it to Spain. In the 7th century the Saracens invaded Spain and when Barcelona could no longer hold them off a group of citizens took the statue and moved it to the mountain area of Montserrat where it was hidden for almost 200 years and no one remembered its hiding place. In 880 AD shepherd boys where tending their fl ocks were drawn to a bright light and heavenly music. A monastery was built to worship the Black Madonna in 1592 and numerous chapels have been added. Every year thousands of people make a pilgrimage to this shrine especially woman who wish to conceive. They are asked to kiss the statue's hand and pray. Many miracles have taken place here. We will celebrate Mass and have quiet time for meditation and refl ection. Dinner and overnight. (B/D)

Day 12: Oct 12th Denver

After breakfast we depart for the airport arriving home the same day taking with us many blessings and memories to last a life time. (B)
