St. Patrick Church: 10 Day Central Europe Oberammergau



Day 1: USA/PRAGUE

We board our transatlantic flight bound for Czech Republic. Dinner and breakfast served on board.

Day 2: PRAGUE

Upon arrival in the enchanting city of Prague, with its 1,100 year old skyline, domed rooftops, soaring steeples and countless spires. We are greeted by our tour escort and start on a panoramic tour of the city before transferring to the hotel for dinner and overnight. (D)

Day 3: PRAGUE

After breakfast, we begin our tour of beautiful Prague by celebrating Mass at the Church of Our Lady Victorious. Here we see the renowned statue of the Infant Jesus of Prague, a high point for pilgrimages where many miracles have been recorded. We visit Old Town by way of Golden Lane, then go to Lesser Town to see the Medieval Charles Bridge that is adorned with many baroque statues. We will also see St. Nicholas Church, the Astronomic Clock, and the Prague Castle district where we tour St. Vitus Cathedral, St. George Basilica, Loreto Church, Strahov Monastery, and Wenceslas Square. Dinner and overnight. (B,D)

Day 4: PRAGUE/VIENNA

After breakfast we drive south from Czech Republic heading to Austria with our tour escort and European motor coach and transferred to our hotel. The balance of the day is at leisure for independent activities, dinner and overnight at our hotel. (D)

Day 5: VIENNA/SALZBURG

Our morning sightseeing tour will include monuments to the great musicians of this Imperial City. We will also see intricately carved St. Stephens Spire, the Imperial Hofburg Palace, Opera House and the National Museums; a highlight will be a visit to explore the wonders of the Habsburg summer residence Schoenbrunn Palace. Afternoon departure to Salzburg. Salzburg, the setting for the famed music festival and the beloved movie the “Sound of Music,” rests in the Alpine foothills. Our afternoon sightseeing tour here will include the Cathedral, the pedestrian shopping street, Getreidegasse, imposing Hohen-salzburg Fortress and the sparkling Mirabel Palace. A visit will also be made to the birthplace of Salzburg’s favorite son the composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Dinner and overnight at our hotel. (B,D)

Day 6: SALZBURG/OBERAMMERGAU

Today we will start with breakfast and continue with more sightseeing in Salzburg. After lunch on our own, breathtaking views awaits us as we drive across Austria and through charming resort villages. Drive through the Bavarian Alps via the winter sports resorts of Seefeld and Garmisch Partenkirchen and on to our destination of the charming small village of Oberammergau. (B,D)

Day 7: OBERAMMERGAU

The entire day is spent attending a performance of the world famous Passion Play, performed once every ten years in this beautiful hamlet. (B,D)

Day 8: OBERMMERGAU/FREISING/ALTOTTING

After breakfast we board our deluxe motor coach to start our sightseeing tour. Our first stop today will be where Pope Benedict XVI studied at the University of Theology and was ordained on June 29th. Day 9: ALTOTTING/MARKTL/NEUOTTING

After breakfast, our sightseeing tour begins in the town of Altotting, referred to as the “Heart of Bavaria,” with Germany’s most famous Marian Shrine dating back over 500 years. Each year over a million pilgrims visit the Altotting shrine to venerate the “Black Madonna,” a wooden statue of the Virgin Mary, and to pray for healing. The shrine displays many crutches as a testimony to successful healings and answered prayers. We continue to the Baroque Chapel Square to pray at the tiny Chapel of Grace dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. We will visit St. Konrad Monastery where the saints’ relics are housed under the altar in St. Anna Basilica, the largest church built in Germany in the 20th century. We end our tour with a visit to the monumental cyclorama, “Jerusalem Panorama Crucifixion of Christ” circa 1903, showing the crucifixion scene on canvass paintings. This afternoon we drive to the market town of Marktl, the birthplace of Pope Benedict XVI. We will visit the church where he was born and baptized on Easter Saturday April 16th, 1927. We return to Altotting via Neuotting, a town on the river Inn, for dinner and overnight. (B,D)

Day 10: Altotting/ Munich / USA

We transfer to Munich Airport this morning for our flight to the USA, arriving home the same day, taking with us memories and blessings to last a life time. (B)
