Tis the season of anniversaries – 2017, the 100th anniversary of the Fatima apparitions; 2018, the 100th anniversary of the founding of our Diocese of Lafayette; and 2019, the 70th anniversary of the founding of Our Lady of Fatima Church/School. On a more personal note, 2019 will also be the 30th anniversary of my ordination to the Sacred Priesthood. God has been so good to me these past 30 years. In wonderful assignments, He has placed people into my life who have marked it forever. And thus, to make next year all the more special, I desire to return to the spot where the journey began – to the tombs of both Peter and the man at whose hands I was ordained, Pope St. John Paul II. The Eternal City elicits many grace-fi lled memories for me, having studied there for three years. The environs (Assisi with St. Francis, Nettuno with St. Maria Goretti) are equally signifi cant. An added trip to Fatima, the spot where Our Lady gave the world her important message in 1917 – a message I have tried so hard to teach these past 12 years at Fatima Church here in Lafayette – can only deepen one's love for this apparition. And an extended trip to London, and the spots that highlight the life of St. Thomas More, will add meaning to the lives of students who go to our local Catholic High School under his patronage, and will allow me to invoke this Saint's powerful intercession in my role as School Chancellor. It's going to be a wonderful pilgrimage. It would be an honor to have you join me as I take a journey down memory lane and sing out for all that has unfolded these past 30 years, “Deo Gratias!”
