After breakfast we start our touring of Mira?ores Locks at the Paci?c coast to the entrance to the Panama Canal. Here, we will view the locks in operation and watch in amazement as over 20 million gallons of water are transferred in less than 0 minutes. The Panama Canal is an astonishing example of modern engineering, considered to be one of the “wonders of the world”. More than 2,000 ocean-going vessels pass through annually. Hopefully, we will see a freighter passing through the locks today; it will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Our tour continues with a tour of Old Panama City, view the magni?cent Cathedral de Panamá City (Nuestra Senora de la Asuncion) elegantly dominating the Plaza de la Independencia, the National Theater and the bayside monument to French entrepreneurs who envisioned the Panama Canal and the Cityscape Lookout. The design was conceived in 1999 and the museum opened in October 2014. Continue to the Panama Canal Museum. Established in 1997, the museum is devoted to the history of the construction of the Panama Canal in its various stages, including the ?rst French construction, the later construction by the United States, and the eventual transfer to Panamanian control. The current building dates from 1874 and served originally as the headquarters of both the French and U.S. companies engaged in the construction of the canal. In the evening we will have a farewell dinner. Overnight at the hotel.
