Visit the mighty 17th century Romanesque Cathedral dedicated to St. Rupert, the Nurnberg Convent of Benedictine Nuns, founded in 713 and considered the oldest Nunnery in the world, and the Fortress Hohen Salzburg. We stop at Heilbronn Palace to enjoy its gardens and hidden trick fountains. In the afternoon we depart for Munich where we visit the Asamkirche, one of the most richly decorated rococo churches in the world. A relatively small church, it is named for its two builders, the brothers Cosmas & Egid Asam. The skeleton of St. Johannes Nepomuk, for whom the church is formally named, is enshrined there in a glass case. Dinner and overnight. (B,D)

Day 6: Munich/Altotting/Oberammergau Area

Our sightseeing tour begins in the town of Altotting, referred to as the “Heart of Bavaria,” with Germany's most famous Marian Shrine dating back over 500 years. Each year over a million pilgrims visit the Alotting shrine to venerate the “Black Madonna,” a wooden statue of the Virgin Mary, and to pray for healing. The shrine displays many crutches as a testimony to successful healings and answered prayers. Mass will be celebrated at the center of the pilgrimage complex, the Chapel of Mercy.
